Overview
HamletAmbroise ThomasDuration: 3h40 with 1 intervalLanguage: French Supertitles: French / EnglishIn the 1860s, Ambroise Thomas was among the composers who, like Verdi with Macbeth or Gounod with Roméo et Juliette, decided to bring a Shakespeare play to the opera stage.
He chose Hamlet, the most famous and also the most philosophical.
In the version by librettists Jules Barbier and Michel Carré, the Prince of Denmark loses a little of his metaphysical dimension, which is compensated for by richly textured music that even introduces two saxophone solos.
