Overview
A show based on Alfred Jarry for children aged 5 and up. Running time: 50 minutes.
Ubu is a contented man. He loves eating, sleeping and, of course, keeping King Venceslas company, whom he serves as a loyal officer. But one day Mother Ubu puts another plan into his head: why not take King Venceslas's place and become king himself? With the help of Captain Bordure, Father Ubu achieves his ends rather quickly. But how far will he go?
Jarry mercilessly satirises an authoritarian world that we easily recognise, yet he never gives in to darkness. Instead, he offers us a colourful, jubilant farce written in a fiery, thundering language, a play that is resolutely one of a kind.
By my green candle, yes indeed, I am pleased.
And who wouldn't be? Captain of dragoons, trusted officer of King Venceslas, decorated with the Order of the Red Eagle of Poland and former King of Aragon: what more could one want?
