Overview
A Baroque programme built around Antonio Vivaldi's The Four Seasons, accompanied by the Adagio attributed to Tomaso Albinoni and Johann Pachelbel's Canon, performed at La Sainte-Chapelle in Paris with artist Paul Rouger.
Vivaldi's The Four Seasons, published in Amsterdam in 1725 in the collection Il cimento dell'armonia e dell'inventione, are four concertos for violin, strings and basso continuo. Each illustrates a season, with titles and sonnets that describe the scenes evoked by the music.
The programme pairs this cycle with two pieces from the Baroque repertoire: the Adagio in G minor attributed to Tomaso Albinoni, whose score was reconstructed in the twentieth century by Remo Giazotto, and the Canon in D major by Johann Pachelbel, written for three violins and basso continuo. Paul Rouger is the artist announced for this programme.
La Sainte-Chapelle is a Gothic chapel built in the thirteenth century on the Île de la Cité to house the relics of the Passion. Today it hosts concerts and performances, within this heritage setting.
