*19h30 & 21h30* Inspired by Fela Kuti and Tony Allen, this evening offers a reinterpretation of Afrobeat through jazz. Nicolas Giraud, who played alongside Tony Allen, found in him a true mentor, who passed on his vision of rhythm, tempo and groove.
He continues here this dialogue between Afrobeat and jazz, centred on melody and improvisation. Both rooted in jazz, the founders of Afrobeat blended it with Yoruba rhythms and African percussion to create a music that has become essential.
An approach that can also be heard in Tony Allen's latest instrumental projects, notably Rejoice, The Source or A Tribute to Art Blakey, where Afrobeat meets jazz freely.
Léa Cielchelski / saxophones, flute Thibaud Merle / bass clarinet, flute Alexandre Millet / piano, keyboards Yann-Lou Bertrand / bass Nicolas Giraud / drums
