After having magnificently brought Maylis de Kerangal’s novel, Réparer les vivants, to the stage, Emmanuel Noblet now tackles another masterpiece of contemporary French literature, Article 353 du Code pénal, by Tanguy Viel. The Bay of Brest, the investment dreams of the town’s inhabitants, bankruptcy, fraud… The scene is set for this Finistère-based thriller. Martial Kermeur has just been arrested by the police for throwing Antoine Lazenec’s body into the sea. Before the judge (played by Emmanuel Noblet), he recounts the sequence of events that led him there. In this meticulously crafted stage version, Tanguy Viel’s political and striking words, delivered by the impeccable Vincent Garanger, compose a sensitive theatrical work. A reflection on empathy and dignity.
