It's in Paris and more specifically in the Paris metro that characters will have a crossed destiny. The story centers on Rose, a young woman with a velvet voice, who sings in the metro to make ends meet.

She was raised by her mother until age 15, before her mother died of a serious illness. One fine day, Antoine, the costumer of the "Ballroom," a very chic Paris cabaret, hears the young woman singing on the platform.

Extremely moved by her talent, he invites her to discover the Show and insists that she truly deserves to make it her profession. On show night, he takes a slightly bold initiative and takes advantage of intermission to encourage his guest to sing on stage.

He sees in it an unmissable opportunity for her to show her talent to all spectators present and for once under good conditions. Not being dressed very elegantly, Rose becomes subject to criticism and mockery from certain people.

Moreover, Macha, the show's star dancer, doesn't hesitate to complain, finding it shameful that a beggar was allowed in the "Ballroom" and especially that she was allowed to perform on the same stage as her.

Feeling humiliated, Rose runs toward the exit and leaves the hall in tears. At the end of the show, Charles de la Tour, a wealthy man, regular at the "Ballroom," inquires about the young girl from Léandre. He wants to find her at all costs.

The show's director suggests the man go to "Good News" station, where the beggar spends most of her time. He finally sees her and exchanges a few words with her.
