Bonne Nouvelle

It is in Paris, and more precisely in the Paris metro, that characters will have their destinies crossed. The story centres on Rose, a young woman with a velvet voice who sings in the metro to make ends meet.

She was raised by her mother until the age of 15, before her mother died of a serious illness. One fine day, Antoine, the costume designer at the "Ballroom", a very chic Parisian cabaret, hears the young woman singing on the platform.

Deeply moved by her talent, he invites her to come and discover the Show, and insists that she would fully deserve to make singing her profession.

On the evening of the performance, he takes a somewhat daring initiative and, during the interval, encourages his guest to sing on stage. For her, he sees an unmissable opportunity to show her talent to all the spectators in the hall and, for once, in good conditions.

Not dressed very elegantly, Rose becomes the target of criticism and mockery from certain people.

Indeed, Macha, the star dancer of the show, does not hesitate to grumble about her, finding it shameful, on the one hand, that a beggar was allowed into the "Ballroom" and, above all, that she was able to perform on the same stage as her.

Feeling humiliated, Rose runs towards the exit and leaves the hall in tears. At the end of the show, Charles de la Tour, a wealthy man and regular of the "Ballroom", asks Léandre about the young woman. He is determined at all costs to find her.

The director of the "Ballroom" suggests that the man go to the "Bonne Nouvelle" station, where the beggar spends most of her time. He eventually sees her and exchanges a few words with her.

He introduces himself as a mere admirer and tries to convince her to take her life in hand, and that her talent could allow her to have a great career. He offers her his help. But his powers of persuasion have no effect, and the young woman refuses all advice and withdraws.
