Concert around « Mass  », a musical composition by Leonard Bernstein

The Ensemble Vocal and the Choeur d'application of the Conservatoire de Bordeaux, conducted by students from the choral conducting class, present a reimagined version of Leonard Bernstein's Mass. A true bridge between secular and sacred music, this monumental work is one of the most exuberant scores in the history of music, moving from playful experimentation to musical theatre, from a fanfare to a gospel, from liturgical chants to jazz and rock interludes. Composed between 1969 and 1971 during the Vietnam War, this unidentified musical object carries an unmistakably political dimension and a thoroughly transgressive edge for its time. The 45 singers on stage, accompanied by an instrumental ensemble, will bring this astonishing musical fresco to life.
