Overview
Hailed as one of the finest voices in modern Africa, Fatoumata Diawara has already enchanted a handful of English rock heroes (Damon Albarn - Gorillaz), several American jazz giants (Herbie Hancock, Dee Dee Bridgewater) and also the adventurous Frenchman M!
Between tradition and modernity, she brings the wassoulou rhythms and the vocal techniques of West Africa up to date, breaking the rules within an eclectic and avant-garde universe.
Afro-pop, folk, jazz, funk or even indie rock: at the confluence of tradition and modernity, vibrant and colourful, her music moves from one style to another with dazzling fluidity. Her lyrics also reveal a highly committed personality, particularly in support of women's causes.
