Overview
Acclaimed as one of the most beautiful voices in modern Africa, Fatoumata Diawara has already captivated a handful of English rock heroes (Damon Albarn – Gorillaz), several giants of American jazz (Herbie Hancock, Dee Dee Bridgewater) and also the adventurous Frenchman M!
Between tradition and modernity, she brings the wassoulou rhythms and the vocal techniques of West Africa up to date, upending conventions in an eclectic, avant-garde universe.
Afro-pop, folk, jazz, funk and even indie rock: at the confluence of tradition and modernity, colourful and vivid, her music moves from one style to another with a breathtaking fluidity.
Through her lyrics there also emerges a highly committed personality, particularly in the cause of women.
