Overview
"SEMBIANZE immediately reveals, from the very first pieces, a sound and instrumental world that is both powerful and intimate, elegant and luminous, original and already essential" Gil Chaveau – La Revue du SpectacleIrene Amata's latest album, "Sembianze", develops a rare aesthetic within today's vocal jazz landscape: a music of breath, nuance and transformation.
The album moves forward with an inner intensity reminiscent of certain worlds created by Norma Winstone, Maria Pia De Vito or the expressive delicacy of Luciana Souza, while retaining a deeply Mediterranean identity.
The compositions favour open harmonic colours, supple metres and a very organic flow between composition and improvisation.
Irene Amata's voice is never showy; instead it acts as a shifting presence within the group, able to move from lightness to intense emotional tension within a few bars.
This way of suspending time, paired with extremely fine collective listening between the musicians, creates immersive, cinematic music that finds its full power in concert.
