Joan As Policewoman

Joan As Policewoman, aka Joan Wasser, is back in Paris to present her unique musical world at the Alhambra. Expect an evening where emotion and intensity will be at the fore.

Joan Wasser, known by her stage name Joan As Policewoman, is an American artist whose career has been built on a bold exploration of genres. After starting out as a violinist in independent bands and collaborating with figures such as Lou Reed, Rufus Wainwright or Antony and the Johnsons, she launched her solo project in 2002. Her first album, "Real Life", released in 2006, drew immediate attention with a blend of soul, indie rock and pop, carried by her distinctive voice and sophisticated arrangements. She is often joined by talented musicians, such as drummer Parker Kindred and bassist Erik Sanko, who add richness to her compositions.

Her musical style is hard to pin down, moving between the melancholy of the blues, the energy of rock, the depth of soul and a certain pop sophistication. Joan As Policewoman is recognised for her introspective lyrics, often marked by vulnerability and strength, tackling universal themes with a disarming sincerity. Across her discography, which includes albums such as "To Survive" (2008), "The Deep Field" (2011) and, more recently, "Damned Devotion" (2018) and "The Solution Is Restless" (2021), she has maintained an artistic coherence while exploring new sounds, at times tinged with funk or disco, always with a certain elegance.

On stage, Joan As Policewoman is renowned for the intensity and authenticity of her performances. She creates a tangible connection with her audience, turning each concert into an intimate and immersive experience. Her instrumental fluency, whether on piano, guitar or violin, combined with her captivating vocal presence, guarantees a show rich in nuance and emotion. This appearance at the Alhambra offers a fine opportunity to discover or rediscover the breadth of her talent in a venue whose acoustics are much appreciated, well suited to the nuanced character of her music.
