Overview
Noémie Gantier has embarked on a long journey: performing in full a novel she has learnt by heart, Marguerite Duras's L'Amant. Here she shares a few extracts.
Noémie Gantier makes her way through L'Amant, Marguerite Duras's text, both loathed and adored, hand in hand with the young girl from the novel, the one who crosses the Mékong river on a ferry and believes she is falling in love.
Once she reaches the other bank, she will have left behind her childhood and her family to discover the power of desire.
Embodying this novel means embracing all of its complexity: the sticky colonialism, the unresolved unease around the young girl's prostitution, the mother's madness, black humour, and this eroticism that insists on turning up everywhere, even where one would rather not find it.
In this reading performance, Noémie Gantier presents the first stage of this marathon show.
