Fabrice Luchini reads Victor Hugo. Texts, poems. And Victor Hugo seen by Charles Péguy and Charles Baudelaire. Directed by Emmanuelle Garassino«I gave a first reading of Victor Hugo's texts and poems to an audience in June 2021, in the gardens of the Maison de Chateaubriand.

Contrary to the line by André Gide, himself a shrewd analyst, « Who is the greatest French poet? Victor Hugo, alas  », I find in Victor Hugo's writings moments of dazzling brilliance that go beyond the gifted craftsman, and joys of writing that spring from his very prolific output.

Alongside the show on La Fontaine and lockdown that I have been performing since 2022, I wanted to return to this more austere exercise, in order to offer audiences a pure reading of texts, notably the sublime Booz endormi, which Marcel Proust called the most beautiful poem of the 19th century, poems on the death of his daughter, and commentaries by writers such as Charles Baudelaire and Charles Péguy on Victor Hugo.

The reading begins at the time of his exile to Jersey and Guernsey, and touches in particular on the death of his daughter Léopoldine. »Fabrice Luchini Duration 1h45 Reduced-mobility booking: 01 42 08 00 32 Presented by Assise Production
