Sanit Mils presents: LEYA American duo formed by harpist Marilu Donovan and singer/violinist Adam Markiewicz, LEYA moves through a singular universe, somewhere between avant-pop, deviant chamber music, underground art and futuristic gothic visions.
From three elements (mistuned harp, troubled operatic voice and violin merged into vocal matter), the duo shapes music as elegant as it is unsettling, fragile and dissonant, which seems to come as much from a fantasized baroque past as from a distant future.
Throughout an album, cassettes, EPs, a mixtape and numerous collaborations, LEYA has traversed noise, DIY, fashion and contemporary art scenes, notably crossing paths with Eartheater, Actress, Ecco2K, Brooke Candy, Sega Bodega, claire rousay, Okay Kaya, HTRK and Chanel Beads.
Their work has resonated as much on runways as in institutions like MoMA or the Palais de Tokyo. A rare, spectral and deeply singular sound experience, between suspended beauty and incandescent unease.
