Limbo

A memorable performer in Mounia Nassangar's Stuck, Suzanne Degennaro presents a solo in waacking — the virtuoso dance style born in the queer clubs of 1970s Los Angeles.

Through dance that is both flamboyant and suspended, Limbo evokes Suzanne's lived experience as an intersex person. A deep dive into the in-between: between masculine and feminine, between the norm and the margins, between the intimate and the political.

Suspended on a dancefloor at the border of the real and the imagined, her character, in search of love and celebration, inhabits this space of strangeness and unsettling aesthetics.

Waacking then becomes a tool for shifting perspectives and challenging dominant bodily representations. Jogo de dentro. Trained by Imad Nefti, Jerson Diasonama is a performer developing a choreographic and photographic world built around youth, identity and underground culture.

For this third piece, Jerson invited Kaê Brown Carvalho. Together, they create Jogo de Dentro, an expression referring to a style of capoeira from Angola.

They explore the encounter between two beings who have always had the feeling of knowing each other, travelling back in time to experience a carefree creativity, rooted in their deep origins — Brazilian references on one side, Angolan on the other.

At its heart, Jogo de Dentro is lulled by memories, warm summer colours, the scent of acarajé from the Bahian coast, endless Angolan beaches and soundscapes tinged with saudade.
