Mi Madre y el dinero, Anacarsis Ramos - Pornotràfico

A mother and a son. She spent her whole life taking on subsistence jobs in Campeche, one of the poorest states in Mexico. He devotes himself to theatre. Together, they make the stage a tool for unfolding their lives at the crossroads of the violence inherited from neocolonial capitalism.

Josefina Orlaineta ran forty businesses, from small sandwich shops to costume jewellery. On stage, the Mexican director Anacarsis Ramos and his mother attempt a materialist reading of those working years. This gentler reading relieves Josefina of choices shaped by a specific context: Campeche, a coastal, working-class city whose natural riches stopped benefiting its residents in the twentieth century. The forty-first business, a small theatre business, unfolds before our eyes. Josefina no longer appears as a resourceful shopkeeper but as an actor, performing the complex entanglement of work, theatre and life.
