Overview

What do the artists' letters tell us? As part of the Poland–France Season 2027, students from the Conservatoire invite audiences to discover the intimacy of George Sand and Frédéric Chopin through their exchanges, enriched by the works of Chopin and Pauline Viardot. A sensitive dialogue between words and music.

For nearly ten years, George Sand and Frédéric Chopin shared a love affair, a creative partnership and an artistic life. From Paris to Nohant, their letters reveal the intimacy of an extraordinary couple: the travels, the surges of passion, the anxieties, the illness, but also the everyday life of creation.

Between 1838 and 1847, Chopin found at Nohant in particular an environment conducive to his work. George Sand's house became a true artistic home, where writers, painters and musicians met. Among them was Pauline Viardot, a close friend of George Sand and a major figure in European musical life.

Here, the correspondence becomes material for the theatre:

Daphné Laffite and Jean Charpentier, students from the theatre class, give voice to the letters of George Sand and Chopin. Alongside them, piano students from the class of Yumeto Suenaga bring Chopin and Pauline Viardot to life, extending this epistolary dialogue through music. Chopin and Viardot had a close artistic relationship of their own: they notably played duets together, and Chopin admired the songs of the singer and composer.

An encounter between literature, theatre and music, bringing to light, beyond the love story, the birth of an artistic world, as part of the Poland–France Season 2027.
