To settle this question, a prince reveals to his court and to the woman he desires an experiment once imagined by his father: returning to the origins of the world by offering as a spectacle the meeting of four adolescents, isolated from society and from each other for 17 years.

First looks, first emotions, upheaval of the senses. Soon, the experiment takes unexpected turns, leaving the question unanswered.

Freely inspired by Marivaux's La Dispute, the new creation of the Paris National Opera Academy, What Burns in Silence, makes the themes of love, desire and domination resonate with madrigals by Claudio Monteverdi, Barbara Strozzi and Philippe Fénelon, like so many echoes of the heart's impulses but also the cruelty of a pitiless court.
