Panzerballett's music was designed as training intended to develop and maximize the connections between the brain and each of the muscles used during headbanging.
Some listeners have reported involuntary head movements as a side effect; after prolonged exposure, these generally transform into a smile, or sometimes into ecstatic laughter.
Jan Zehrfeld, the brain and principal composer of the group, has performed with Passport, the Hilliard Ensemble and Peter Herbolzheimer's German National Youth Jazz Orchestra.
His compositions offer a singular fusion of jazz, funk and metal, blending sophisticated funk grooves, powerful polyrhythmic riffs and jazz improvisations.
Known for its energy, virtuosity and sense of humor, Panzerballett has shared the bill with Chick Corea and John McLaughlin within the Five Peace Band, as well as with Kenny Garrett, Bill Frisell, MacAlpine/Sheehan/Donati and Mattias IA Eklundh.
