Overview
Enjoy a family moment at the MEP to share and discuss a philosophical theme related to the exhibitions, accessible to younger audiences. After independently discovering the exhibition “La photographie en toutes lettres”, parents and children are invited to gather to take the time to express their ideas, exchange, and listen, in a friendly atmosphere.
Inspired by John Berger's Ways of Seeing (1972), the exhibition takes from this foundational work the idea that “seeing precedes words”. Does an image need to be explained to be understood? Sometimes, a photograph tells us something without using any words.
It can evoke emotions, memories, or stories in our imagination. But do words change the way we look? Does a word necessarily associate with an image?
Based on the works in the exhibition, children will explore this question together by observing, discussing, and inventing their own interpretations of the images, using their own words or silences.
