Overview
For Tank and the Bangas, music is a vector of unrestrained joy and transcendent connection — forces as inseparable from their identity as their wildly original sound.
On their new album The Last Balloon, the New Orleans-born group channels these impulses into a work that is at once festive and deeply human, exploring themes of frustration, resilience and personal fulfilment with as much raw emotion as playful exuberance.
A multi-faceted collective led by singer Tarriona "Tank" Ball and multi-instrumentalist Norman Spence II, this group adored around the world completed the album after winning a Grammy for The Heart, The Mind, The Soul, a hard-hitting spoken word album released in 2024, moving from incendiary poetry to an euphoric collision of soul, hip-hop and avant-garde R&B.
The final instalment of a trilogy of albums that began in 2019 with Green Balloon (a critical triumph that earned them a Grammy Awards nomination in the Best New Artist category), The Last Balloon firmly consolidates Tank and the Bangas' legacy as an essential voice in modern music, carrying a sublime euphoria.
