Ulysse Mars is a singer-poet and electric guitarist. On stage, he cultivates a deadpan humour, in a vein close to cabaret, even stand-up, to contextualise songs that remain tinged with melancholy.

« Ulysse Mars is a singer-poet and electric guitarist. On stage, he cultivates a deadpan humour, in a vein close to cabaret, even stand-up, to contextualise songs that remain tinged with melancholy. He offers a show of sad songs where there's a lot of laughter. His songs are portraits of the forgotten people of today's "techno-capitalist" society, told with an old-fashioned elegance. He accompanies himself on electric guitar with a style heavily influenced by Marc Ribot, and on some songs with a retro drum machine.  »

Désespoir des singes, an indie folk project based in Brussels, releases its first EP Distant Fire on 25 February 2026. A labyrinth paved with misty paths, lost illusions and blazing plains whose flames inexorably draw closer — mirroring the world outside —, but also with glimmers of hope. With its twilight atmospheres created by a powerful voice and guitar sounds riddled with effects nourished by the great names of Anglophone folk, but also by artists such as Tamino, Désespoir des singes invites us to journey towards this horizon so distant yet so close and, knowing that we have no control over it, to continue moving forward - towards the light or the inferno.
