About — The artist
Christopher Brown, known as Chris Brown, born 5 May 1989 in Tappahannock, Virginia, is an American singer, dancer-choreographer, singer-songwriter and director. Starting out in singing and dancing at a young age, he signed with the label Jive Records in 2004 and released his eponymous debut album the following year. It reached second place on the US Billboard 200 and was later certified double platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). With his first single, Run It!, topping the US Billboard Hot 100, he became the first musician since Diddy in 1997 whose debut single reached the number one position.
In 2013, he had a total of 9 million albums sold worldwide and around 35 million singles. His YouTube channel is also one of the most viewed in the world, with his music videos accumulating nearly 3,500,000,000 views in total, ranking ninth worldwide as of 30 December 2012. He even broke the record held by Lady Gaga by drawing 18,000 fans to his concert for NBC's Today Show.
Following the media coverage of his case of violence against Rihanna, Chris Brown announced via Twitter that he would retire from his career after the release of his sixth album, X, but eventually reversed his decision. His fortune is estimated at around 50 million dollars. The artist also owns 14 restaurants of the American fast-food chain Burger King.
