About — The artist

Claude François, nicknamed "Cloclo", born on 1 February 1939 in Ismailia, Egypt, and who died accidentally on 11 March 1978 in Paris, was a French singer, dancer, musician, and music producer active in the 1960s and 1970s.

During his sixteen-year career, he was one of the most beloved French artists. Many of his songs have remained famous, such as Belles ! Belles ! Belles !, Cette année-là, Le Lundi au soleil, Le téléphone pleure, Magnolias for Ever, Alexandrie Alexandra, and Comme d'habitude (My Way in its English version).

Claude François revolutionised French popular music by incorporating modern choreographies into his concerts. From 1966, he created the famous group of Claudettes, who sang and danced with him in a highly synchronised manner. This formula, partly inspired by American shows, became his trademark.

A perfectionist stage performer, he modernised variety shows in France. He is one of the best-selling French artists and an essential figure in French music of the 1960s-1970s.
