About — The artist
Cassandra Peterson, born on 17 September 1951 in Manhattan, Kansas, is an American actress, television host, producer and screenwriter.
She is best known for her character Elvira, whom she plays primarily in the film Elvira, Mistress of the Dark (1988) and its sequels. The character was later adapted into video games, comic books and pinball machines.
Peterson has embodied her Elvira character since the start of her professional career, when, in the 1980s, she hosted a weekly television show focused on horror films, titled Elvira's Movie Macabre, broadcast on a Los Angeles station. Wearing a low-cut, Gothic-style black dress that showcases her ample bust, her Elvira character, with her sexy “vamp” look, also draws on the “valley girl” stereotype.
