About — The artist
Virtuoso bassist born in Douala and trained in Paris, Étienne Mbappé is one of the great signatures of modern bass — recognizable by his black silk gloves, which became his trademark. Sought-after sideman (John McLaughlin & The 4th Dimension, Joe Zawinul, Salif Keïta, Manu Dibango), he also leads his own projects between jazz fusion, Cameroonian groove and song, with a rare melodic lyricism for a bassist. To see him in a Paris club is to approach very closely a world-class musician.
