Gims

Gandhi Djuna, known as Gims, formerly Maître Gims, born May 5, 1986 in Kinshasa in Zaire, is a Congolese singer and rapper. He grew up in France and lives primarily between France and Morocco. He is a member of the hip-hop group Sexion d'assaut. He pursued a solo career under the name Maître Gims then Gims from 2013. Throughout his career, he has worked with several international artists such as Sia, Pitbull, Lil Wayne, Stromae, Maluma, Sting and others. He has over 5 million records sold, including 3 million albums since the beginning of his career.

Gims began his solo career in 2013 with the release of his first album, Subliminal in May on the Wati B and Sony Music labels, which reached second place on French album charts. In December, he released a re-issue titled Subliminal la face cachée. The album contains songs such as J'me tire, Bella, One Shot, Changer and Zombie. From its first week of release, the album was certified platinum and eventually became a double diamond album for over a million copies sold. The album met with great success on charts in France, Belgium and Switzerland.

In August 2015, Gims released his second album, Mon cœur avait raison. The album is divided into two parts: the red pill, which contains rap songs, and the blue pill, which contains urban-pop songs. A year later, he released a re-issue titled À contrecœur. The album contains songs such as: Est-ce que tu m'aimes ?, Laissez passer, Brisé, Sapés comme jamais (certified diamond in France in 2018), Tu vas me manquer, Je te pardonne, Ma beauté (certified diamond in France in 2025) and Tout donner (certified diamond in France in 2018). By the end of 2018, over 700,000 units had been sold in France and 581,000 units worldwide.

He released his third album in March 2018, titled Ceinture noire on the Groupe TF1 and Play Two labels. The album contains songs such as Caméléon, Miami Vice, Hola Señorita (certified diamond in France in 2022), Reste, 10/10 and Mi Gna. His song La même (certified diamond in France after four months, in 2018) was the most played in France in 2018 and helped Gims become the most-played artist in 2018 on French television and radio, and the seventh most-played artist worldwide on Deezer.

During confinement related to the Covid-19 pandemic, Gims announced a 100% rap album for October 2020. On December 4, 2020, he released his fourth album titled Le Fléau. In November 2020, he won the International Artist of the Year award at the Distinctive International Arab Festivals Awards following his participation in Mohamed Ramadan's song Ya Habibi. On September 17, 2019, Netflix released a documentary about the past ten years of his career titled Gims: On the Record. A re-issue titled Les vestiges du fléau was published on May 28, 2021. A second re-issue titled L'Empire de Méroé was released on December 3, 2021. The album contains songs such as Yolo, Immortel, Jusqu'ici tout va bien, Belle and Only You.

In December 2022, he released his fifth album, Les Dernières Volontés de Mozart or LDVM (Symphonie). In July 2024, the album reached 100,000 copies sold and was certified platinum. The album sold fewer copies than his previous projects.
