About — The artist

Mogwai are a British post-rock band from Glasgow, Scotland. Over the years, they became one of the most influential and prominent bands of the post-rock scene, starting with their widely acclaimed debut album Mogwai Young Team in 1997. Largely instrumental, the band's tracks are usually built around a bass or guitar line, to which variations on the theme are gradually added. These compositions oscillate between atmospheric soundscapes and sonic violence (their concerts generally end in complete chaos, amid a wash of feedback). The band were regular guests of John Peel in their early days and recorded seven Peel Sessions between 1996 and 2004. Peel recorded a brief introduction for the compilation Government Commissions: BBC Sessions 1996–2003.
