About — The artist

Queen [kwiːn] is a British rock band, originally from London, England. It was formed in 1970 by Freddie Mercury, Brian May, and Roger Taylor, with the latter two coming from the band Smile. The following year, bassist John Deacon completed the line-up. All four members of Queen are songwriters, each bringing a unique touch to the band's musical identity.

Thanks to its success and influence, Queen is considered one of the greatest British rock bands in history. The band had sold over 300 million albums internationally by 2009, including 32.5 million in the United States.

Queen is also one of the pioneers of the music video, having utilised this mode of communication as early as 1975. In 1991, the band faced the premature death of Freddie Mercury (who had AIDS), the band's singer and icon. Despite this, Queen continues to exist through various projects and collaborations and has maintained its popularity and a large number of unconditional admirers worldwide.
