About — The artist
The Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra (Koninklijk Concertgebouworkest Amsterdam in Dutch) is the principal symphony orchestra of the Netherlands. It is in residence at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam.
Late romantic works are among the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra's core repertoire. Its interpretations of Mahler, Bruckner and Strauss are particularly renowned as reference points.
The orchestra is considered one of the best in the world. Its silky sound, transparency, warmth and beauty of its sections, and the magnitude of its grand tutti have made it a legendary orchestra, comparable in its perfection and "sound signature" to the Vienna and Berlin Philharmonics. In 2023, a Bachtrack poll ranked it the fourth best orchestra in the world, closely trailing the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra and behind the Wiener Philharmoniker (second) and the Berliner Philharmoniker (first).
