About — The artist
Spiritbox are a Canadian heavy metal band from Vancouver Island, British Columbia. Critics have described their style as metalcore, post-metal, djent, progressive metal, alternative metal and « post-metalcore ». The band's metal style is thus hard to pin down to one specific metal genre, as it draws on a variety of influences and incorporates electronic elements. The band's hallmark is experimentation.
Spiritbox was formed in 2017 by the couple Mike Stringer (guitar) and Courtney LaPlante (vocals), after leaving their previous band, Iwrestledabearonce, in search of greater artistic freedom. In 2017, the pair released a first EP titled Spiritbox, and in 2018 two new members joined the duo: Bill Crook on bass and Ryan Loerke on drums. As a four-piece, they released a second EP, Singles Collection, in 2019.
The band grew in popularity through singles that charted on the Billboard charts, before releasing their debut album Eternal Blue (2021), which reached number 13 on the US Billboard 200. Their music is currently released through their label, Pale Chord, in partnership with Rise Records. The band released their second album, Tsunami Sea, on 7 March 2025.
