About — The venue
Quanta Computer Inc., founded in 1988, is based in Taiwan.
Quanta is one of the leaders in the production of desktop and laptop computers.
Around a third of the laptops sold worldwide are reportedly manufactured by Quanta (201x), a very significant part of whose business involves assembling devices on behalf of other manufacturers, including Dell, Hewlett-Packard, Sony, Toshiba, and NEC.
This motherboard manufacturing activity puts Quanta in direct competition with fellow Taiwanese company Hannstar, which operates in the same sector for the same well-known manufacturers.
The company is also present in the mobile telephony, LCD television, server, and storage product markets.
On December 13, 2005, Quanta was selected by the One Laptop per Child organization to manufacture the $100 laptop developed by MIT.
