Alcôv, la nouvelle expérience d'écoute musicale spatialisée

A temporary auditorium. The audience at the centre. A new way to listen, see and feel. Three exclusive musical creations imagined for Alcôv by acclaimed artists. Five years of research to build its acoustic architecture.

Alcôv is the first (and only) temporary auditorium for spatialised sound. Each work performed is an original creation, developed with the artist from the outset and designed specifically for the installation. Unique without being perishable, the work travels with the touring installation, providing a new revenue stream for artists and a new promise of experience for the audience.

The concept

temporal rarity: 65 days of presence per season

collective intimacy: 300 people maximum per session to preserve the quality of listening

The programme

AIR: a re-orchestration of the soundtrack to The Virgin Suicides, marking the album's 25th anniversary and created specially for this space

Vivaldi: Les Quatre Saisons, performed by Théotime Langlois de Swarte and the orchestra Le Consort

Moving through the space

Inside, visitors first pass through the Gallery, a space for moving around and an introduction to spatialised sound. This entrance route hosts Objets sonores, an exhibition of audio equipment devoted to the history of sound reproduction, curated by Laurent Massaloux and Jean-Yves Leloup. Dozens of loudspeakers, players and sound devices from the 20th and 21st centuries, chosen for their formal qualities: objects that are as technical as they are aesthetic, even symbolic.
