Brise du Nil - Ensemble Azbakiyya - Egypte

Nesma Nilea is an encounter between music and dance, carried by four artists gathered around the Egyptian repertoire.

The show is a quest for shared emotion between the performers and the audience. It explores tarab, the state in which music and movement join together in profound intensity. It offers a journey through Egypt in sounds, rhythms and gestures, inviting the audience into a sensitive immersion and an inner journey between listening, body and emotions.

John Samy Megalaa trained at the Higher Institute of Arabic Music in Cairo, where he specialised in the nay flute.

He then joined the Arabic music orchestra of the Cairo Opera House and became a nay teacher while winning several awards, including first prize in the Egyptian Ministry of Culture competition in 2018. An internationally renowned artist, he has performed in many countries in Europe and the Arab world and has collaborated with prestigious ensembles and recognised artists.

Mervat Adly Henein is an Egyptian musician and teacher specialising in piano and Oriental rhythms. Born in Egypt, she devoted much of her career to the Higher Institute of Arabic Music in Cairo.

Julien Coulon holds a first prize in classical guitar and, in addition, has training in jazz (bass and double bass) and a master's degree in musicology. His musical horizons range from classical to jazz, from French chanson to rock, from Oriental music to Celtic music... Gradually, he has explored the world of plucked strings and has a passion for early and Oriental instruments: the lute, baroque guitar, oud, saz, mandolin, kwîtra, theorbo, bouzouki, cetera, orpharion... He has released several albums as a performer, arranger and composer.
