Overview

As part of the Sunday Morning Concerts.

"We are in the inconceivable, but with dazzling reference points." René Char. Conceived as an alternative to the traditional concert outing—usually scheduled in the evening or morning, but never before 3 PM—the Sunday Morning Concerts offer an off-the-beaten-track format for the whole family. True to the "Châtelet spirit," with programming that is at once demanding, eclectic and popular, these events are built around a simple and accessible format: one hour of music without an intermission, punctuated by an introduction and a reading alternating poetry, literature and philosophy. Placed under the patronage of a figure from the world of art or letters, the Sunday Morning Concerts are designed as an original musical moment, where renowned performers play along with the dialogue between the arts and society, for a sensitive, informed and enlightened approach to the concert experience. For this second edition at the Théâtre du Châtelet, the programming revolves around four events, ranging from Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's chamber music to Johann Sebastian Bach's works for solo cello, via a tribute to Ludwig van Beethoven and a look at the solo piano repertoire of the 19th and 20th centuries. This programming places the emphasis on contemplation and reflection, with an accessible approach for everyone. Subtly too, as suggested by the excerpt from the letter written by the poet and resistance fighter René Char to his friend Francis Curel during the Second World War, the Sunday Morning Concerts are, first and foremost, an invitation to ecstasy, within the beautiful setting of the Grande Salle at the Théâtre du Châtelet.
