Overview
Le Cirque. Film concert. Dimitri Soudoplatoff conductor. Charlie Chaplin. The Circus (1928). For Christmas, let yourself be swept away by the magic, tenderness and humour of Charlie Chaplin in this masterpiece that earned him his first "Academy Award".
A landmark of silent cinema, The Circus is rediscovered as a film concert, allowing the ever-present, live-performed music to reveal its full narrative power. In The Circus (1928), Charlie takes refuge in a circus to escape a false accusation of pickpocketing.
His legendary clumsiness and endearing innocence soon make him, quite against his will, the star attraction. In this top-tier comedy, Chaplin sweeps the audience into a whirlwind of gags and emotion, weaving comedy and tragedy together with unmatched skill.
