Cycle Beethoven - Passion - Piano Concerto #3

Beethoven Cycle - Passion Piano Concerto 3

Joseph Haydn Symphony No. 37 in C major, Hob. I:37 (1758)

Ludwig van Beethoven Piano Concerto No. 3 in C minor, Op. 37 (1800)

Ethel Smyth Serenade in D major for orchestra (1889)

The 2026/2027 season, which inaugurates the tenure of Holly Hyun Choe as music director of the Orchestra, opens in a classicism in motion, founded on the vivacity of gesture and the intelligence of dialogue. Haydn's Symphony Hob. I:37 condenses this art of economy, moving between rapid dramaturgy, frank contrasts and invention that is constantly developed.

In Beethoven's Third Concerto, the Mozartian lineage remains perceptible, but the discourse becomes denser: the piano becomes an engine of tension and architecture. In this passionate work, the pianist Anna Geniushene, winner of the celebrated Van Cliburn competition, brings her virtuosity to the service of a variety of timbres.

The evening will finally broaden out to the British composer Ethel Smyth, whose campaigning for women's rights marked the first half of the twentieth century. Faithful to the Romantic orchestral tradition, her Serenade carries the audience into a style attentive to colour and to the breathing of its lines.

Do not miss the chance to meet Holly Hyun Choe after the performance!
