« Giselle » addresses all the themes of romanticism: local colour and pastoral love that ends in tragedy, the irruption of a fantastic world and redemption through the power of love.
The title role of « Giselle » is one of the most difficult in the repertoire, demanding from the performer, in addition to impeccable technical mastery, qualities of dramatic expression ranging from joy of life to despair, then to madness and passion.
The choreography, quite surprising for its time, struck the public with the solidity of its structure both in the grand tableaux of the corps de ballet and in the solos.
