Hélène Duret - Brut Ensemble

Presented by Charlie Free. With her Brut Ensemble, Hélène Duret reshapes the sextet format and unsettles our habits. Around her clarinet, four wind players and a drummer build a collective texture in which voices cross, shift and keep recomposing themselves.

The music never settles: melody blends with rhythm and the ensemble moves forward in a single surge. Drawing on her travels in Colombia and the Dominican Republic, she develops an organic writing, running through shifting colours and shared energies.

In the wake of Max Cilla, Ellen Arkbro, Ornette Coleman, Carla Bley and Jimmy Giuffre, she explores a freedom of play in which the roles are redrawn at every moment.

With her accomplices, she brings forth a living and unpredictable music, an experience to be lived intensely at Moulin à Jazz, naturally.
