Keziah Jones

KEZIAH JONES It is hard to believe that this Nigerian-born artist was discovered in the metro... And yet! A virtuoso guitarist, Keziah Jones was spotted in the early 1990s while playing in the Paris metro.

Heavily influenced by Prince's funk, he has travelled the world for three decades, regularly releasing albums that are like eclectic postcards. From studio sessions to festival stages, the Lagos native has constantly refined his unique style.

Born in 1968 in Lagos, Nigeria, after spending some time in the Constantine region of Algeria with his uncle, Keziah was sent to England by his father to complete his studies. At just eight years old, the young boy was separated from his family to join the Public School in London.

In the English capital, the Nigerian discovered his passion for music. He taught himself the piano at the age of 13 and proved to be gifted at it. Three years later, he decided to learn another instrument: the guitar.

Little by little, he began to write his own lyrics and perform them. He created a new musical style, a blend of funk, blues, folk and soul, which he named BluFunk.
