Overview
Some albums are born out of necessity. Resistance — the new album by Jacques Schwarz-Bart in trio format — is one of them. Not an abstract manifesto, not a stylistic exercise: an act.
A musical response from a man to the era he is living through, from the city where he lives, with the musicians he has trusted for more than twenty years. Jacques Schwarz-Bart lives in Boston.
Faced with the resurgence of authoritarianism at the heart of Western democracies, he chooses a response: to transform unease into serenity.
For this project, Jacques Schwarz-Bart made a deliberate choice: a line-up without any harmonic instrument — tenor saxophone, double bass, drums. No piano, no guitar. An act of structural freedom, which opens up a space for radical improvisation.
"Harmonic instruments often confine improvisers within a predetermined framework of chords. "
