In resonance with the INFERNO project, this program questions the lasting fascination that Dante's Divine Comedy exerted on the Romantics in the 19th century.
The heart of the program is devoted to the rare cycle by composer and pianist Marie Jaëll: eighteen pieces for piano divided between Hell, Purgatory and Paradise, strikingly modern for their time.
Célia Oneto Bensaid, who has recorded the complete cycle, reveals all its visionary power. Around these pages, Franz Liszt remains a constant presence, from Mephisto-Waltz No. 3 to Schubert's lieder transcribed for piano.
