Klodin Erb : première exposition personnelle en France

Exploring emotions, fantasies, and the big questions that run through our lives, Klodin Erb presents her first solo exhibition in France. Nourished by art history, theatre, fashion, and popular culture, her work questions our desires, our anxieties, and our ways of inhabiting the world.

Le Grand Drame transforms the Centre culturel suisse into a stage where the tragic rubs shoulders with the burlesque, the sensitive mingles with the absurd, and its figures evolve in a universe that is at once theatrical, sensual and profoundly alive. Under the glass roof, Venusinfurs displays a series of monumental paintings bordered with textile thistles. Inspired as much by representations of the birth of Venus as by Roman Baroque ceilings, these works populated by floating, intertwined or suspended bodies compose a free and feminist reinterpretation of a long pictorial tradition. Points of view shift, scales blur, and figures seem to be carried away in continuous motion. A new video work, created for the exhibition, extends this universe. Half-human, half-animal beings wander through a series of missed encounters, fragmented memories, and ghostly social events. Through them, Klodin Erb continues a reflection on memory, its deformations with advancing age, and the fictions we elaborate to give shape to our lives. With Le Grand Drame, the deeply colourist and gestural painting, imbued with surrealist moments, becomes decor, stage, and character all at once.
