L’Affaire de la Rue de Lourcine

« L’Affaire de la rue de Lourcine  », the famous nightmarish vaudeville by Eugène Labiche, is on stage at the Radiant-Bellevue, directed by Jean-Christophe Hembert.

In 1857, Eugène Labiche, the French playwright and master of vaudeville, took up the short story « The Murders of the Rue Morgue  » by Edgar Allan Poe to write « L’Affaire de la rue de Lourcine  ». The play therefore carries two very different legacies: the police investigation with its exploration of the human soul from Edgar Allan Poe, and the comic virtuosity of Eugène Labiche. This hybrid blend is what gives the work its value, and Jean-Christophe Hembert embraces both kinships: the « thriller  » and the vaudeville.

As in his previous shows, the director engages with a great author, today Eugène Labiche, to create a play that lights the way for audiences through the complexity of the stories.

On stage, the actors defend their roles magnificently, and with « L’Affaire de la rue de Lourcine  », the audience is swept into an unforgettable piece of theatre.
