L'Ecole des Femmes de Molière

Directed by Frédérique Lazarini. It is the story of a day in the house of Arnolphe. That day, the guardian decides to marry the young girl he keeps locked away. But she begins, from her balcony, to discover the world...

That day will also be the one on which the prisoner, now in love, leaves her jailer. With L'École des femmes, Frédérique Lazarini continues the thread of her tribute to heroines who resist, or break free...

and questions the fate of Agnès, entrusted to Arnolphe when she was only four years old and raised in a convent.

In her childhood bedroom with its glass walls, the ward has only ever been lulled by a single discourse, and her upbringing has been built on the sole precepts of her protector, who is jealous and possessive.

Constantly watched over and kept in dependence, she who one day confronts the outside world (and love) has reached the age of bodily upheaval and the stirrings of the heart, yet suffers from the extreme naivety that has been carefully cultivated in her mind.

Yet beneath the fabric of her innocence, a chrysalis gradually cracking, Agnès, becoming almost bold, stands on the threshold of her metamorphosis, ready to exist... and her sudden and irrepressible blossoming plunges Arnolphe into a descent into hell.

This school for wives will question our world. A world where Arnolphes are in principle punished, where young women think they follow their own inclinations, where young men seem so free...

A world where, as in every world, the amorous transports of these beings, who seek and find one another, are inalienable. And where love and laughter are sometimes merciless. A new reading of Molière's work, clear and organic, lively and visual, seductive and subversive!
