La Lente et Difficile Agonie du Crapaud Buffle sur le Socle Patriarcal

An adaptation of the radio show Répliques on France Culture, a highlight of the Festival d’Avignon Off 2025, La lente et difficile agonie du crapaud buffle sur le socle patriarcal, embodied by an audacious trio – Julien Flament, Anne-Sophie Pauchet and Juliette Lamour –, acutely and humorously reconstructs a great radio moment where political feminism confronts patriarchal discourse. A feminist, joyful and cathartic proposition!

On 4 December 2021, Alain Finkielkraut welcomed philosopher Camille Froidevaux-Metterie, author of Un corps à soi, and essayist Jean-Michel Delacomptée, author of Les hommes et les femmes, notes sur l’esprit du temps, to his show Répliques on France Culture.

The programme for the show: Men and Women Today – On the evolution of relations between the sexes and their revolution.

Quickly, this moment, which could have been just a traditional contradictory exchange, proved more complex and transformed into a brilliant demonstration of contemporary feminism in the face of patriarchal discourse. Two visions oppose each other, two worlds clash.

Has the patriarchal ordering of our society really changed, as its detractors claim? Or should we, as the philosopher argues, continue the fight to truly dismantle the unequal foundations on which it is organised?

Gradually the debate intensifies, masks fall, and listeners follow the discussion, mesmerised, as one would observe the slow and difficult agony of the bullfrog on the patriarchal pedestal crumbling beneath it…
