Overview
An evening devoted to French music and song, building in crescendo. The first part is given over to the celebrated chansonniers, to whom is linked the most important and culturally most established phenomenon in European song. How could one not mention Edith Piaf, Yves Montand or Jacques Brel? Or indeed the figure still regarded today as the myth of French song, Charles Aznavour? These are poetic texts, speaking of love and indifference, of joy and loneliness, of friendship and everyday life, which inspired the choreographic work unfolding in a succession of independent tableaux. Playing with cultural stereotypes and moving from irony to nostalgia, it tells everyday stories and speaks of emotions. A dance evening devoted to French music could not fail to feature Maurice Ravel's Boléro, a piece of explosive force and brilliant structure, with an obsessive rhythm evoking seduction, made immortal by great choreographers and performers. Yet the Ballet de Milan's version offers another interpretation. It is not only a game of seduction, but the eternal story of a birth, of an inevitable attraction towards a like being, of a multiplication of encounters. It is a life which, just as it is born, fades away in solitude.
