Lounis Aït Menguellet is one of the major figures of Kabyle song and poetry. Born on 17 January 1950 in Ighil Bouammas, in Kabylie, he began his artistic career at the age of 17 and quickly established himself as an essential voice of Amazigh culture. As a songwriter, composer and performer, he has built, over almost six decades, a monumental body of work, sustained by the richness of his lyrics, the depth of his reflection and his commitment to universal human values.

Often called the “poet of Kabyle song”, Lounis Aït Menguellet has marked several generations with songs blending poetry, philosophy and engagement. His repertoire, now a major cultural heritage, has earned him numerous distinctions, including an honorary doctorate from the Mouloud Mammeri University of Tizi Ouzou.

Over the course of his career, Lounis Aït Menguellet has filled the largest concert halls in France and Algeria, from the Olympia, the Zénith and the Accor Arena in Paris, to the most prestigious Algerian stages, where for several decades he has drawn a loyal, intergenerational audience.
