Lounis Aït Menguellet is one of the major figures of Kabyle song and poetry. Born on 17 January 1950 in Ighil Bouammas, in Kabylia, he began his artistic career at age 17 and quickly established himself as an essential voice of Amazigh culture.

Author, composer and performer, he has built over nearly six decades a monumental body of work, driven by the richness of his texts, the depth of his reflection and his commitment to universal human values.

Called by many the 'poet of Kabyle song', Lounis Aït Menguellet has marked several generations through songs combining poetry, philosophy and commitment.

His repertoire, which has become a major cultural heritage, earned him numerous distinctions, including an Honorary Doctorate from Mouloud Mammeri University in Tizi Ouzou.
