Maldoror

Maldoror Is the poet the murderer's accomplice?

Maldoror

Is the poet the murderer's accomplice? Is the artist the criminal's lookout? What ties bind literature and evil, art and crime?

A show performed in French, English, German, Italian, Spanish and Portuguese, with French surtitles.

Ten years after 2666, Julien Gosselin plunges back into the work of Roberto Bolaño, this time accompanied by the spectre of Maldoror, an allegory of evil standing between men and gods, risen from the songs of the young Lautréamont. From this teeming literature, Julien Gosselin creates a theatre-world in which eras, languages and continents intertwine. From the Uruguay that saw Lautréamont grow up to the Chile of Pinochet, from the Paris of the accursed poets to the nights of Mexico City, from the literary circles of Santiago to the writers' rooms of Barcelona, the audience navigates between the confines of Latin America and Europe, the better to uncover the zones where art and evil walk side by side.

Between the poems, blood. Beneath the stage, mud. Maldoror hurls the spectator into the perilous abysses of writing, out there at the edge of beauty and darkness, where theatre meets its accursed share.
