com/events/1732707711107129 MARTIN DUPONT (Synth pop, cold wave legend /FR) ESTETICA NOIR (Darkwave, post-punk /IT) MARTIN DUPONT (Synth pop, cold wave legend /FR) Martin Dupont is an emblematic French group of the new wave and cold wave, formed in Marseille from the ashes of the punk movement in the early 1980s.

It was then made up of Alain Seghir, Brigitte Balian and Catherine Loy. After the group's first album, Beverley Jane Crew joined the line-up and, after a few months and a concert as a four-piece, Catherine Loy left the group. Martin Dupont disappeared as a group in 1987.

During its brief existence, Martin Dupont supported The Lotus Eaters, The Lounge Lizards and Siouxsie and the Banshees[1]. by Alain Seghir. Formed in 1982, the group adopted a deliberately very ordinary name.

Their style blends futuristic synthesisers, cold rhythms and dark, sensitive and hypnotic melodies. Unclassifiable despite its affiliation with new wave, Martin Dupont plays essentially electronic music onto which a clarinet is grafted.

It has often been compared to New Order for its mysterious aspect (its name is made up of the most common surnames in France, and the sleeve graphics were designed by Yves Cheynet). Today, the group is regarded as a cult act by many.

It came to an end after 1987 so that its leader could devote himself to surgery. The group acquired a cult status abroad, notably in the United States thanks to the Minimal Wave label, and influenced renowned artists such as Tricky and Kanye West.

After more than thirty years of hiatus, Martin Dupont reformed to return to the stage and released a new album entitled You Smile When It Hurts.
